Notification of final rule publication for Healthcare Facilities and Reverse Distributors
To all Healthcare Facilities and Reverse Distributors,
The purpose of this posting is to notify Healthcare Facilities and Reverse Distributors of a final rule publication and effective date, for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals handling.
Healthcare facilities and reverse distributors are prohibited from discharging hazardous waste pharmaceuticals to the sewer collection system and treatment plant, pursuant to the published rule and existing sewer use ordinances.
The EPA signed the final rule titled “Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals and Amendment to the P075 Listing for Nicotine” on February 22, 2019, which establishes and updates standards for handling hazardous waste pharmaceuticals and nicotine replacement therapies.
Please refer to the published rule or contact your RCRA representative to determine what types of facilities and products may apply.
This rule will be effective August 21, 2019.
